I have the opportunity to go to 3 autocross events this month. I am losing my mind over this! THIS IS AMAZING! Where does the problem lie? Well it will cost about 90 bucks total. I don't want to lose that money!!! Or I could #YOLO it. You know what, screw it. #YOLO. Also, these cars were at the place where the event is going to be held. I would have gone, but I had finals that week.

If you have the money for the auto x but don't want to "lose" it. . . the only person losing is you. $90 for 3 events isn't bad and you get to flog your car 3 times in one month. Remember that winter is coming and you won't have these opportunities for a while. . . But you have like 3 months. . . Fuck it man go and auto x your car. . .

I am like that with money. I have nothing better to do with, so it goes unused. I know I have it, I just don't want to let it go. I can't explain it. . .

I do exactly that. I have to desperately want something before I'll pay for it even if I can comfortably afford it.

Even if know I really want, I hold off on it. It is such a strange habit, even things as small as 10 dollars are a huge decision.

Considering I won't be driving the car at all during school time(public transportation FTW! Plus it is free for students), I might as well do it.

Yeah same here. I think I developed it when I was younger and my family were struggling for money so if I wanted something I had to save pennies and wash cars and stuff. So I really learned the value of looking after my cash. And now a decade later with my own cash I've held onto the habit... Minus the collecting up pennies haha.

Good for you, being frugal and all.

But, sometimes making memories > keeping money.

$90 for 3 events is cheap. Where I live 3 event would cost more like $150. Not that I'd want to auto-x 3 times in a month... we don't have a massive lot to run in so the courses are pretty much all 2nd gear for me and it ends up being hard on the tires. Last year I pretty much burned though a brand new set of tires in 6 events. Now I do less auto-x and more lapping because it's easier on tires.... and there's way more seat time.

In Finland we call this type of race as autoslalom. But our track a lot tighter and large cars are pretty useless in our races. My friend has been racing with a Volvo 240 and even that is way too big for our tracks. Small and nimble is the way to go.

Here is a turbocharged Citroën AX going around the cones.

Yup, the fastest cars are usually Miatas and shifter carts! The courses don't like big cars. Mustangs are always out classed there!

I have done a total of 9(I think) since last year, and my tires are completely fine, and they aren't even performance oriented. They are crappy all-seasons. I would love track time, but it is so expensive!

I was kind of the same. My parents came to America and they needed to build up a lot of cash, now we are pretty well off. I still kept my habit of not buying anything I really need it. My sisters didn't have to deal with the frugal part of the family so they aren't like me, so they don't make such a big deal about purchases.

Money is meant to be used! That is a saying I always try and remember even if I don't always follow it :P

Well... crappy all seasons have a higher tread wear rating so they should last longer than a performance oriented tire... assuming you're not drifting everywhere you go.
Having a large lot with a higher speed, more flowing course is much more friendly on tires though. I've done events where there's been a figure 8 or a tight 360 and dumping into first and kicking the back end out was the fastest way through... do that 5 or 6 times plus a few fun runs at the end of the day multiply by 6 events and it ends up being a lot of wheel spin lol... (for the record I was running star specs at the time which are pretty sticky)

It's cheaper than a single one day ticket to Disney Land, and you'll have more fun. Do it. Do IT. DO IT!
